Elegies in Chalk And Salt
This is an ongoing project, the idea of it being that through placing random outlines of human figures in chalk and salt in urban and non urban spaces, I attempt to bring into existence the thoughts and feeling which can accompany the awareness that our hopes for all our potential is not and may not neccessarily be realised in our lifetime.
Often these feelings come in midlife when second chances may seem to have passed us by. Sometimes the dreams we have may seem small, for example learning a musical instrument, or visiting a certain place, and at times bigger than we can ever hope to achieve. Either way we experience a sense of loss in the recognition of our unrealised potential. This project is an acknowledgement of that potential in us all.
Chalk and Salt was chosen as a medium because though it can take on form it can also, through the elements, be rendered formless. This state echoes the ephemeral nature of our potential to harness and achieve our dreams.
